What is Confirmation?
Confirmation is a practice where a baptized person begins to claim personally the promise or covenant God made in their baptism: that you are God’s child and an heir to all of His grace and gifts. Since most young people were too young to speak for themselves at their baptism, parents and sponsors covenanted with God on their behalf. In Confirmation, maturing youth now begin to speak for themselves and “confirm” their personal covenant with God.
Confirmation is a time for youth to explore and know in mind and heart what being a child of the “King” is all about. Confirmation provides youth with a chance to understand more fully the Christian life and start to develop a public confession of their faith and relationship with God as Creator and Father; with Jesus as Friend and Savior; and with God’s Spirit as comforter and guide for all of life. If you haven’t yet been baptized, Confirmation is a time to explore your faith and prepare for baptism. Confirmation is a special focused time for youth to grow in friendship with their God!
